Title: People to see, Wraith to round up. . .
Author: Sharpes_HussyRating: G
Prompt: Stand
Summary: At times it is necessary to take a stand even when things appear to be against you
Sheppard crawled out from beneath the pile of debris that he had dove into in hast, using it as cover while the Wraith were hunting for surivors of the Dart attack. Odd that the Wraith had not done any beam me up Scotty routine, but instead seemed to be intent on basic strafing; the kind of destruction they did so well. He had no idea where his team was. The last he saw of them, Ronon was searching for a suitable spot to bury himself and although he could hear the plaintive voice of McKay, he could not see him visibly, and hadn't a clue about Teyla's whereabouts. He hated this separation as many thoughts crawled through his mind including one featuring his team as objects of Wraith trackers. Then he noticed something else disturbing. He was covered with a mixture of dirt, leaves, and something that stuck to his BDUs, tact, and worst of all, his P-90.
CRAP!
His facial expression reflected his extreme annoyance as he inspected his weapon to see if it needed cleaning, which he found extremely humorous given the surroundings. To field strip his P-90 presented a lot of problems. It would be almost impossible to do an adequate job given the wind. It was blowing and that meant a lot of FOD, as debris was referrred to in aviation. It was flying around, likely to stick to every surface, as it had stuck to him already. As he debated the dilemma further, he heard rustling nearby. Taking position behind a nearby tree, he waited to see who, or what, was coming and not very quietly either. Carefully peering around the tree, Sheppard hoped that it was friendly because right now his weapon might not be much use. Ronon stepped through the vegetation, scowl on his face, as he attempted to brush off the same debris Sheppard had picked up. Without looking up, Ronon stopped and began inspecting his blaster probably wondering like Sheppard if it would function properly. When he looked up, he saw Sheppard as he stepped out from behind the tree, and said in a deadpan voice, “I wondered what happened to you.”
Before Sheppard could reply, Ronon continued, “Let's find McKay and Teyla so we can get some Wraith before we head back.”
Get some Wraith? That sounded like a pit stop for fastfood.
Never one to waste a chance to wreak revenge, Ronon was now fully smiling as he took point, but in Sheppard's mind it was somehow feral; actually quite unpleasant.

This is like an obstacle course sometimes. You finish it and preview it and it looks fine and then post it and everything changes again
Never mind if I try to edit it
One time I had three different font sizes when I tried to do that.
In my last story I wrote east instead of west pier, but figured
it would be a nightmare trying to edit it........

Date: 2011-09-27 09:21 pm (UTC)Sheppard has a wry sense of humor
I always loved that part of him...irony and dry humor define him
in my mind.
I also could visual how annoyed he would be covered in all that
gunk.........and particularly his weapon

Date: 2011-09-29 12:15 am (UTC)I hated getting anything on my uniform and kept a uniform brush in my car, in my office, at home etc.
My blues were particularly susceptible (they are midnight blue which sort of looks black till you put it up against something black and then your realize they are indeed DEEP blue)
I remember when I was a kid dad had put on his blues and as soon as he walked into the kitchen the cat raced up and rubbed all over the legs....
He was so ticked off, but just picked up his uniform brush and quickly whisked the cat hair away and got out the door before she could attack him again........
:D

Date: 2011-09-29 03:09 am (UTC)I never saw my dad in his marine uniform or his police uniform. Wish I had, as he's gone now. All I have are a few photos and none are with his marine uniform.

Yes and now just memories through photos.........
I wish there was something I could say......
I look at photos of it all and sometimes it seems like it never
happened, but I have our commissioning certificates here in the
den on the wall as proof that it did.
His is A LOT more ornate than mine e.g. Neptune and Amphitrite
riding on a chariot pulled by Hippocamps and accompanying them are nymphs and other assorted sea dignitaries...all featured prominently in lithograph....below all the introduction of commissioning etc.
Mine comes right to the point, minces no words and just has a Navy seal
I guess Dept of Navy ran out of ideas or $$$ by then.
:P

Date: 2011-09-30 08:56 am (UTC)There was probably someone in the Navy who had a bright idea on how to make the certificates "better"...

Date: 2011-10-03 11:35 pm (UTC)There are so many photos and other memorabilia, all unidentified now
which is sad.
I threw the photos away as they mean nothing and no way to know other than they are obviously shots in combat.....
I wish I had known as I could donate that way.
I also found all his ribbons and medals etc.
He kept this trunk for many years but the word was not to touch
Sandy has his journals. They were to be used for a book he was
in the process of doing with some publisher in NYC.
It was never written. Two days after his funeral, she called.
She asked for him and I told her he was dead. There was silence for a bit and when I said "Are you still there?" she replied "I was working with him planning a book"
I wish he had been able to do that. It all started with the marines in Shanghai before WWII began and ended with him leaving
Vietnam when Saigon fell................
**sighs**
So, I found out some stories about my Dad...
Date: 2011-10-15 04:57 am (UTC)Part of it was how his friends would climb the trees (so it wouldn't stop him from getting that ride and to still keep my dad company) to wait with him while he waited to hitch a ride back to Camp Pendleton. Quite a few of the boys in his neighborhood went into the marines during the Korean conflict. He was so young when he hitched up. He was just 17 and it appears that quite a few of them were underage.
Re: So, I found out some stories about my Dad...
Date: 2011-10-16 09:02 pm (UTC)I still remember when I found the family pix in his foot locker...nobody had ever seen it......
Your father was young, but that was so common even during WWII
Mom's brother began pestering his mother when he was 15. He wanted her to sign the papers when he was 16. She held out till he turned 17. Had we had to invade Japan he would have been killed as he was part of the amphibious forces.
I look at pix of dad when he was with the marines in Shanghai
(marines have no medical corps)
and have no knowledge of any part of it.......save for a short statement about how they could hear the rockets as they whizzed over the American settlement, intended for the Chinese...
He is wearing marine greens, not Navy.....and in some pix
it is obvious they are in areas that had been bombed by the Japanese who by that time had invaded Manchuria.
This was of course before we entered the war.
So many blank pages when it comes to him.

Date: 2011-09-29 05:00 am (UTC)That line had me rolling on the floor. I can almost see that weird face he pulls sometimes, like he just can't believe what he just heard or saw. The man can speak volumes with his expressions.

Date: 2011-09-29 05:18 am (UTC)given his 'dedication' to Wraith.
I know what you mean about Sheppard and his
facial expressions. Some are priceless.
Hard to keep a serious take on things when he does his schtick.

Also, love Sheppard's worry over his team. Great piece!!
