Title: The darkness of it
Author: sharpes_hussy
Rating: G
Prompt: sense
Summary: Sheppard had wandered to the spaces below....
He had tried to sleep, but like so many other times when they had returned from off world it soon proved futile.
Sheppard left his quarters and taking the ladder two steps at a time, ambled into facilities control to see what was happening, but he soon realized it was just as bad as remaining in his quarters.
He wondered if he should just run, but then decided instead to take the transporter to the spaces below.
They had never really been accessed other than an initial look when they had
moved into Atlantis.
When he stepped into the transporter he hit the bottom button figuring it would be
only a matter of minutes before their dank darkness would make him seek the upper levels.
The door slid open and the air felt close, almost too close.
Sheppard stepped out into the darkness, only lighting provided by intermittent security lamps which left shadows in every recessed area.
It reminded him of the first time he had entered a hive.......and then
momentarily he was drawn back to the incident featuring Colonel Sumner.
It had been shocking initially as he had never seen anything like the Wraith
and never mind the 'queen'. She was something else and remembering her,
he momentarily shuddered.
The Wraith made the insurgents in Afghanistan look like munchkins in comparison.
As he wandered the passageways he was struck by how easy it would be to
miss a corridor and think you were somewhere else and. . .
Was it possible to get lost down here??
Patting his earpiece he felt some assurance.
After what seemed like too much time had elapsed, he headed back in the direction of the transporter feeling that perhaps he could now sleep.............

Oh so true........
I recall when I was a kid that dear grandmother (maternal) let me sleep in my uncle's room
Initially I was thrilled but then noted immediately on one wall, directly across from my bed, was a 12 point buck, trophy, which had eyes that seemed to follow me anywhere I went in the room
AND if that was not enough, in that room was a closet that looked ominous even in daylight. The bedrooms upstairs were angled as the roof was pitched, so the closet had a shape to it that looked suspect to me.
Mind you, I was a mere child.
When I think about it now it is funny, but at the time it was hardly so............
