Prompt: orange
Summary: The team stepped out of a gate to a sky of orange
When they stepped out of the gate, the sky was an amazing array of deep orange hues, but instead of appreciating it, McKay began to ramble on about how it reminded him of how allergic he was to citrus.
Ronon quipped, “I thought it is lemons you are allergic to,” and then chuckled when he saw Teyla roll her eyes.
As Sheppard moved through the deep vegetation, he remembered Afghanistan and the incredible hues in the morning and at sunset.
He recalled the first time he had experienced the brilliance of a sunrise. They were returning from a sortie when it hit him full face, blinding him momentarily, forcing him to pull his visor.
It was eerie as it moved into the cockpit, bathing everything it touched in shades of deep orange, but at same time ethereal.
At the time he wondered if it might fit the maritime mantra:
Red sky at night, sailor's delight. Red sky in the morning, sailor take warning.
Granted, it had not been red, but...
And what was it that Ruyard Kipling had penned in Mandalay, 'an' the dawn comes up like thunder'?
This was orange, but. . .
Then he was brought back to the present and McKay's ramblings about citrus.
