Title: Beach Daze
Author: sharpes_hussy
Rating: G
Prompt: Driftwood photo
Summary: Sheppard just wanted some down time
Sheppard wanted some down time. He could have returned to his quarters and curled up with War and Peace, but somehow that did not sound as enticing as a few laps in real water and some down time alone.
Instead, he planned to hop in a jumper and look for a beach site.
He had gone to the galley and asked the cook for a sandwich and even some junk food that McKay would have been proud to own, and had headed down to the bay alone.
Running interference was not only Ronon, who offered to accompany him, but when Sheppard replied, “Not this time big guy,” had backed off. Then there was Teyla, who had also offered, and finally an insistent McKay, “And what will you do when you get to wherever you're going?” He had turned them all done.
As he spied the body of water, the jumper began to lose power.
“Crap.”
He was not sure what was happening. It began to lose altitude next.
He tried to correct but it was a no go and it was happening quickly. Sheppard began to calculate if he could make it to the beach. No use scrubbing it in water. After all he wasn't Navy, was he?
He figured he could radio for help as soon as he crashed, er, landed.
When he finally touched down it was not as bad as he thought it might be. Actually, kind of smooth due to the incredible sand that seemed to surround the body of water that from all appearances appeared quite placid.
He soon realized the only way to reach Atlantis was SOS......He had used morse before, and now was forced once more to do it. He just hoped that they would pick up on it; the only glitch being that they would not be looking for communication from him so soon as he was not overdue, at least not yet.
Having no clue as to how long it would take for rescue, he began picking up driftwood to build a beach hovel. When he had gone through survival school, they had been trained for this sort of thing hadn't they? But he had never realized it would come in handy in a galaxy far far away.
Then Sheppard smiled to himself as he continued to pick up beach debris for his shelter.
