Last year I opened his sea chest. I found so much in it that it was unbelievable and most I haven't a clue what it is as he is gone now.
There are so many photos and other memorabilia, all unidentified now
which is sad.
I threw the photos away as they mean nothing and no way to know other than they are obviously shots in combat.....
I wish I had known as I could donate that way.
I also found all his ribbons and medals etc.
He kept this trunk for many years but the word was not to touch
Sandy has his journals. They were to be used for a book he was
in the process of doing with some publisher in NYC.
It was never written. Two days after his funeral, she called.
She asked for him and I told her he was dead. There was silence for a bit and when I said "Are you still there?" she replied "I was working with him planning a book"
I wish he had been able to do that. It all started with the marines in Shanghai before WWII began and ended with him leaving
Vietnam when Saigon fell................
**sighs**
