HAHAHAHA I LOVE THIS. Awesome! The dimple, and John catching her looking! ^__^ I was a little "meh" at first about John and Jennifer, but oh, man, it SO worked here. I like to think of this as an AU, one in which Rodney was maybe a little less inclined to heroism, since it seemed like putting his life on the line all the time is what drove him over the edge to finally stay on Earth.
Loved this line: "I would have employed a fragmentation grenade," Teyla said thoughtfully, and John gave her a high-five. I always thought of John and Teyla as total BFFs, and this moment was just perfect.
And then there was this: "Look," Jenn said, exasperated, "if everyone on the Expedition stayed away from anyone their friends had fucked, at some point there'd be no more fucking on the Expedition!" This story is full of Jen-I-wished-we'd-seen-in-the-show and this was one of my faves!
Definitely a different take on Jennifer, which is good. I feel like her character was shoehorned into season five in such a way as to prop up Rodney's "failing" masculinity, IMO, since up until season five, he and John were all up in that homoerotic subtext. This is just one direction I'd never considered. Which makes YOU the real rebel here! Congrats!
